Most consumers have reservations about painters and renovators due to a couple of reasons: the industry has a poor reputation and some workers are irresponsible. However, once you have met with the Top Pros registered on Toby, you will learn that there are still plenty of diligent painters who are dedicated to their craft and always try their best to satisfy customer needs.
【2024 Top Pro】Kennis — Serve Customers' Needs As Best As He Can
Staff Matters
Kennis met a painter 6 years ago and started working in the industry. Before he became a painter, Kennis was a ceramic and floor tile salesman, which provides him with the knowledge to give clients professional advice and better suggestions. Currently, Kennis has 2 staff members working under him but he confessed, “I don’t see myself as the boss, what matters the most is teamwork”. He feels that a good working relationship can encourage his staff to be more attentive and diligent and do good work.
Joining Toby has made it very convenient for Kennis to solicit projects. Under his friend’s advice, Kennis joined Toby when he decided to expand his business and quickly became one of this year’s Top Pros due to his sincerity and sense of responsibility towards clients. He said, “I recommend people who want to start their own business to join Toby.”
Hard Work during the Pandemic
The pandemic has hit all sectors and industries hard and the painting industry is no exception. Kennis shared, “I started to feel the impact during the first half of 2020. When the second wave came, no clients dared to let us inside their flat to do work.” Lucky for Kennis, business began to pick up again when the pandemic started to slow down.
Based on client requests and project requirements, Kennis will carefully schedule various painting projects as the required work hours can vary greatly. Good time management can help both his staff and clients to pace progress and give clients a sense of professionalism.
Missed a deadline all because of a pigeon?
Even though Kennis has always done his best to satisfy his clients, there was one instance when he missed a deadline but ended up becoming friends with the client.
The client wanted to revert to the original floor plan, clear out his furniture and replace an air conditioner in order to handover his flat to a new owner but during the renovation, Kennis found a pigeon nest with eggs being incubated right next to the air conditioner. If Kennis insisted on replacing the air conditioner, there is a great chance of damaging the nest and the eggs.
Kennis made the decision to proceed with other work items and give the mother pigeon time to incubate her eggs but as the deadline was soon approaching, he had to inform his client. Fortunately, the client, new owner and Kennis all agreed to wait till the eggs are hatched before continuing with the renovation. Even though Kennis was 3 days late in completing the project, all parties were glad that they had saved lives and they all became friends. The pigeons are now in the care of Kennis’s client, he said, “The client sends me photos of the pigeons from time to time, I am so happy that they are being well taken care of.”
Doing Favors
You might sometimes hear rumors that painters are difficult to deal with but Kennis’s attitude is completely the opposite. “I always do my best, even if it is just a favor.” Kennis has received client requests that are not even within the scope of his work, such as removing a small cabinet that is actually as tall as the ceiling, but he still tries to satisfy these requests the best he can, he expressed, “I don’t mind the extra work and will try my best to finish it because I think it is worth it.”
Kennis values customer satisfaction and has earned numerous positive reviews within a short time. He is proud of his work and his job satisfaction comes from earning the respect of his clients, it’s not just about the money.
